EP Review:

In The Red is the debut EP by WOFO (aka Wolfgang Forrest), the son of breakcore producer and owner of the now defunct Cock Rock Disco record label Jason Forrest (aka DJ Donna Summer), but WOFO isn't just some underground nepo baby, this is an EP that, while not perfect, shows genuine tallent and potential. It sits somewhere between breakcore and drum and bass, and shows clear influence from early to mid 2000's gaming culture. While it's not a particularly fast paced EP, it hlods a somewhat high paced energy that makes it perfect to listen to while gaming, but at the same time is calm enough to listen to while just relaxing. The EP starts off with the song "Lain", which as one might assume, samples the anime Serial Experiments Lain, it's a medium paced song that really sets the vibe for the rest of the EP, not too intense, but not boreing either. The next song, "PS2_Mix", makes heavy use of the PS2 startup sound to make a somewhat spacey fast pased drum and bass track, it is my favorite song on the EP, it remindes me a lot of something you might hear in a 2000's sci-fi movie, and is great to dance too, it's just overall a very fun song and I highly recomend checking it out. The song "Finish The Fight" can be the EPs weak point in some ways, but it is by no means a bad song, it is just a bit slow at the begenning, but it absolutely makes up for it in the breakdown, which is by far the most definitively breakcore part of the EP, and is carried by a simple but effective guitar riff. This is probably the best song on the EP by far to listen to while gaming, it just really fits the vibe well! The fourth and final song, "There Is No Spoon", is by far the longest track on the EP at a little over 6 minutes, starts with a very long build up made out of a remix of a classical recording, before abruptly throwing you into an intense gabber breakdown that is undoubtedly the most intense part of the EP and serves as the perfect closer to In The Red. Overall, the EP sets a good vibe, and feels like something that was made in the past and the future at the same time, it is clearly a nostalgic work and like previously mentioned is very reminiscent of early 2000's gaming, and I highly recomend that anyone into that kind of stuff checks this album out!
