Album Review:

A few years ago I was given some Best Buy gift cards by a family member who had no use for them, and while looking through their selection of records, I came across Midnight Marauders by A Tribe Called Quest, at the time I had heard of the group, but I had not actually listened to them, I went ahead and bought the record, and when I played it I was pleasantly surprised. This was the album the reignited my interest in more traditional rap music (I frequently listened to Death Grips, but not really anything else of that genre), not to say I was opposed to listening to rap, but I wasn't going to go out of my way to listen to it either. While I wouldn't say that this album is on the same level as the first to albums, it is still absolutely amazing, and it still has that vibe that chill vibe that I'm looking for when listening to a Quest album. The beats are on top as usual, and the keyboard in Clap Your Hands really scratches an itch in my brain. The lyrics tend to have a good amount of depth within them along with a good flow, my only major complaint about the album is that Busta Rhymes doesn't have more contributions on Oh My God other then just saying the title. Steve Biko is probably my favorite song on the album, it's the perfect opening track to get the listener hooked immediately, and it has a very fun sound I find to be super catchy. 8 Million Stories is a close second, I listened to it while I drove to get breakfast this morning and I was jamming along the whole time, it just really gets me going. just like the previous 2, this album is a must listen for any hip-hop fans who may be reading!
